Kevin Yosua is one of Indonesia's leading jazz double bassists — a player whose time, tone, and taste have carried him from the club scene at home to the European festival circuit. He earned a full scholarship to the Prince Claus Conservatory in the Netherlands for his master's, studying under David Wong, Jesse Davis, and Antonio Hart.
In 2025, Kevin and his trio took first prize at the New Generation Jazz Lab competition in St. Moritz — a defining moment that placed them among Europe's most compelling young voices in the music.
His playing has taken him into studios and onto stages with Alex Sipiagin, Dado Moroni, Joost van Schaik, Fabien Mary, Sri Hanuraga, and Nial Djuliarso. A new album with his trio is scheduled for release later this year.
Off the bandstand, Kevin is the founder and curator of Legato Jazz Club, Legato Jazz Marathon, and Legato Jazz Camp — the venue, the festival, and the school through which he is shaping the next generation of Indonesian jazz. A lecturer at Universitas Pelita Harapan, he teaches what he came home to build.
